Wirrinyah Gurrnung Aboriginal Corporation (WGAC) is the overarching organisation which oversees Yagara cultural revival programs. These programs include:
- Wirrinyah Conservation Services
- Yagara Dancers
- Yagara Language Program
- Yagara Cultural Workshops
Our core purpose is to revive Yagara culture and language through connection to Country and cultural education.
Established in 2010, the Wirrinyah Gurrnung Aboriginal Corporation (formerly Gateebil Gurrnung Aboriginal Corporation) was established to represent cultural rights and interests for the Gateebil clan group of the Lockyer Valley. Through the establishment of the Yagara Dance Group we expanded our scope to include cultural revival through cultural education and song and dance.
In 2020 the Wirrinyah Conservation Services was established to provide Indigenous land management services on Yagara country. Naturally, the business aligned with the corporation’s and became part of the wider Yagara Cultural Revival program.
Through building up our cultural knowledge and experience, we were approached by schools in our area to teach Yagara Language and become teacher learners. This opportunity has allowed us to build the Yagara language program while learning and teaching. We now provide the Language Other and English (LOTE) in 5 local schools.
